The Martha Rules

So for Christmas my mom got me a new book "The Martha Rules...10 Essentials for Achieiving Success as You Start, Build, or Manage a Business" My sister-in-laws will probably laugh - they "lovingly" call me Martha at times when I am being a little too crafty...

Anyway, I've been enjoying the book and came across a quote that I really like "Quality should be placed at the top of your list of priorities, and it should remain there. Quality is something you should strive for in every decision, every day."

I find myself relating to that quote not only in my business but also in the things I do and want for Aidan. I want more quality time with him (one of my new year's "resolutions"). For those of you who have not heard there is a new law that is going to go into effect on February 10th which was created to make sure we have quality and safe products for our children. The problem with the law is the way that it is written may cause a lot of small businesses and independent artists to go out of business because of the strict and expensive testing it requires.

As an owner of a "green" children's boutique I am all for having the safest product choices out there for our children - but it seems this is a little overboard. I am hoping the response they are getting will make them rework the laws to protect the independent artists. The majority of the vendors we use at LGB are already in compliance with the new laws so it won't affect us as much. We all only want the best for our children. I am hearing all the time that in the crazy economic times, people are always much more willing to sacrifice quality for themselves, but not for their kids. So if you want to check out more info on this topic here is a link... http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09086.html
