So last week when I took Aidan to the beach on our one and only 80 degree day I got a sunburn! I couldn’t believe that we are already in that season when I need to be thinking about protecting our skin from the sun. So, I thought that this week would be a good time to explore that topic a little further. Many of us know that we need to be conscious of the kinds of products we are putting on our skin, but we don’t always know why or what to look for. Well, let me help you get on the right track with your sunscreen!
The main thing you want to make sure of when purchasing sunblock is that the brand you choose uses a physical barrier, such as zinc or titanium, rather than a chemical blocker. The chemicals used to create the sun-blocking protection in most run-of-the mill sunscreens, actually act like estrogen in your system, leaving them less than desirable to be slathering all over your body! I don’t know about you, but I have more than enough estrogen surging through my system and I certainly don’t want to be dousing my son with it. Other than that factor, you just want to look for all of the qualities you would normally look for in a natural and safe skin-care product.
There are a few good brands that I typically flock to when looking for the best skin-care possible. California Baby is always a trusted brand to use, and unlike it’s name would suggest, it is great for adults too! Earth’s Best products by Jason also have a great sunblock option. Both product lines are available at Little Green Baby.
So, next time you head outside, even if it is a little overcast (as I was reminded of the hard way), think about grabbing some green sunblock to protect and nourish your skin, and the skin of the little ones you care for.
