Moby

We have been slowly debuting new products for Mom at Little Green Baby and while we work to expand this product category for our customers, we thought we’d take the time to feature one of the great hands free baby carriers we have in stock.

If you have ever tried to juggle the phone, drink a cup of tea, or take a walk outside with baby close…you can appreciate the functionality and practical nature of a high quality baby carrier. So when we discovered the Moby Wrap …we had to have it! Not only are these baby carriers fashionable and trendy but they really DO make Mom’s life a little easier with a newborn. If you practice attachment parenting or have a colicky baby…these baby carriers are a lifesaver. Check it out how fantastic it looks:

These crazy days

It has occurred to me recently that time is truly the most valuable of all things. Oh yes, I know it’s a cliché (and please forgive me for that) but by stepping back and slowing down, I have come to realize that it is the time you spend with those you love that matters most. For many different reasons this hits home for me. The world is in a crazy place right now and I literally don’t know anyone it hasn’t touched. Like millions of others I wish I had the answers….forget the trivia inducing question of “how did we get here?”, but the bigger questions of “how long does it last & how do we get out of it?”

The retail world is in a big hurt right now, and of course Little Green Baby is not the exception. I have had to evaluate and gain a perspective on what is important, necessary and right for the business - and my family. It is scary to hear about so many other boutiques and big box stores close their doors. All that said, I want to take this time to state my commitment to the business. Our website is such a joy and is an absolute treasure to have. But let me just tell you how much I love coming to this store! I love my job and seeing our customers - many of whom truly have become our friends. I love meeting other moms and playing with the kids and helping someone to find that perfect gift. I love our neighborhood support and that customers appreciate our store and am incredibly thrilled when someone says that they are here because their friend/mom/sister told them to check us out. I love the feeling of our little boutique….it feels alive. Crazy statement, I know. But Little Green Baby really does have its own personality - one that is influenced by each and every visitor that graces our doorway.

So, I guess we welcome 2009 with all it’s hopeful changes - fully anticipating it will be one tough, long year….but a year where we anticipate you will be able to find Little Green Baby and www.littlegreenbabychicago.com open for business!

Cancer Sucks....

So plain and simple, CANCER SUCKS. Yesterday was a tough day. For those of you who don't know, my dad has been battling cancer for the past 2 years. Yesterday we were told his cancer has returned, so he has a tough fight ahead of him. I don't know what else to say other than it just sucks.

Busted!!!

Aidan found the brownies that Grandma packaged up for him...look at that guilty face!

The Martha Rules

So for Christmas my mom got me a new book "The Martha Rules...10 Essentials for Achieiving Success as You Start, Build, or Manage a Business" My sister-in-laws will probably laugh - they "lovingly" call me Martha at times when I am being a little too crafty...

Anyway, I've been enjoying the book and came across a quote that I really like "Quality should be placed at the top of your list of priorities, and it should remain there. Quality is something you should strive for in every decision, every day."

I find myself relating to that quote not only in my business but also in the things I do and want for Aidan. I want more quality time with him (one of my new year's "resolutions"). For those of you who have not heard there is a new law that is going to go into effect on February 10th which was created to make sure we have quality and safe products for our children. The problem with the law is the way that it is written may cause a lot of small businesses and independent artists to go out of business because of the strict and expensive testing it requires.

As an owner of a "green" children's boutique I am all for having the safest product choices out there for our children - but it seems this is a little overboard. I am hoping the response they are getting will make them rework the laws to protect the independent artists. The majority of the vendors we use at LGB are already in compliance with the new laws so it won't affect us as much. We all only want the best for our children. I am hearing all the time that in the crazy economic times, people are always much more willing to sacrifice quality for themselves, but not for their kids. Finding ways to entertain ourselves....

I love this picture of Aidan. On these cold, cold days when we have to find fun games to play in the house, Aidan's favorite game to play is hide and seek - he thinks he's really clever in his hiding abilities..
